Introduction to CARSOLOGICA SINICA

Carsologica Sinica was founded in 1982 and has been the only public academic journal in the field of karst in China. It is supervised by Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS), sponsored by, the Institute of Karst Geology, CAGS, and co-sponsored by The International Research Center on Karst under the Auspices of UNESCO, Committee of Karst Geology and Committee of Speleology, Geological Society of China. The journal is a bimonthly publication.

Carsologica Sinica is aimed at publishing papers on themes of resources and environment, and presenting new achievements, new understanding and new methods of scientific and technological studies on karst. The Journal’s mission is to advocate academic contention, and enrich and improve research methods of karst geology with the purpose of promoting social and economic construction. Hence Carsologica Sinica will be transformed into “an important window for overseas understanding of China’s karst research and an authoritative forum for domestic academic exchanges in this field”.

Carsologica Sinica includes coverage of basic theories on karst, hydrological and engineering geology, environmental geology and ecological geology, tourism geology, etc. It mainly attracts the readership interested in fields of karst geology, geography, hydrology and hydropower, architecture, agriculture, forestry, tourism and environmental science.

Setting columns of basic theories, hydrological and engineering geology, environmental geology, ecological geology, tourism geology, etc., Carsologica Sinica mainly publishes research papers on basic theories of karst geology, karst landforms and caves, karst hydrological and engineering geology, karst environmental geology, karst ecological geology, karst mineral geology, karst tourism geology, karst exploration and testing technology, and the others. It also welcomes contributions about introductions of typical karst landscapes at home and abroad, reports of karst academic development, book reviews, etc.

Since 1982, Carsologica Sinica has been facing to the national economy and tightly grasping the theme of resources and the environmental problems and got unanimous praise from all sectors of society. Carsologica Sinica was selected as “The Core Journal of China” and as an excellent publication for many times by Guangxi Province, and was awarded as “Double-Benefit (social and economic) Publication” in high rank periodical publications of China and selected as “Source Journal for Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations” . At the same time, it has been also included in Scopus database, DOAJ database, EBSCO database, American CA database, American GeoRef database, American CSA database, Poland IC database and Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory.

China owns the largest karst region, the largest thickness of carbonate rocks, the best perfect karst formations, the richest karst resources, and the most complex problems occurred in the process of karst resources’ exploitation in the world. As an important window in karst researches of China, Carsologica Sinica has been favored by a wide of audience. Some famous scientists including Prof. Yuan Daoxian, Prof. Chen Mengxiong, and Prof. Wang Yanxin Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Lu Yaoru, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Sweeting from School of Geography, University of Oxford, Prof. DROGUE from Laboratoire d´Hydrogeologié USTL, France, and Prof. Willianms from University of Auckland, New Zealand, have published articles in Carsologica Sinica.

Carsologica Sinica not only has obvious subject advantages, but also has a strong Editorial Board. The members of the Editorial Board include the worldwide famous karst geologists, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, of which, Prof. Yuan Daoxian is the Executive Chairman of the projects IGCP299, IGCP379 and IGCP448 funded by UNESCO, Prof. Zhu Xuewen is a famous karst geomorphologist and speleologist, also the member of World Heritage Evaluation Committee, Prof. Andrej KRANJC from Karst Research Institute of Slovenia, as well as other 93 leading scholars from Canada, New Zealand and China. In addition, the organization sponsed the journal is the only karst institute for public welfare in China, and the world's largest karst research institute. All these have provided strong and effective guarantee to make the journal stand high. Carsologica Sinica has always kept the idea “giving top brands and building high quality”, to set emphatically up the characteristic columns and to guard strictly on the quality during the past 40 years. It is just for this reason that Carsologica Sinica has kept higher reputation in the academic circle. According to the statistic data from the Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and CNKI data-base from Tsinghua University, the impact factor of Carsologica Sinica was up to 1.459 by now.
